Chuck Curmi Campaign Announcement for Plymouth Twp Supervisor
Vote for me on November 5th

Please take a few minutes to get to know my position on the issues most affecting our community.  You'll hear why I am running and how I feel about the many issues facing our community.  Thank you.

Chuck

01 - Public Safety - ALS/Transport

  • Plymouth Township uses two Advanced Life Support/transport services:

    • Township Firefighters

    • Huron Valley Ambulance (HVA)

  • My opponent is working to eliminate HVA.

    • This will not improve the quality of services or safety.

    • It will raise your taxes to cover additional Township personnel, equipment, building space, and contribute to higher future legacy expenses.

  • HVA is a no cost service to the Township and collects fees by invoicing insurance companies.

  • A dual system is safer as Township firefighters remain in the Township for the next emergency call.

  • I support strong public safety that keeps us safe.

  • Take a moment to listen to my message about HVA (length 1:28 secs)

02 - Economic Development

  • Development in our Township during my opponent's tenure has favored those who contribute to his political funds (including those affiliated with horse racing and developers (e.g. Redico/Hillside), mostly residing outside of our community).

  • These developments will have immediate and long-term negative effects on our community.

  • Many of these developments will NOT create stable, long-term jobs nor provide us with tax revenue for decades.

  • I want to attract technology and research businesses as intended by the MITC plan (5 Mile corridor)

  • Our neighborhoods are being assaulted by high density development creating huge traffic increases.

  • Just a few examples are the large-scale warehouses off of Ridge Road with truck traffic choosing North Territorial as their preferred route, the impending Meijer superstore and the Elks Development off of Ann Arbor Road where my opponent demanded a thru road from Ann Arbor Road to Ann Arbor Trail against the wishes of the County and the developer.

  • How has your neighborhood been impacted?

  • Take a moment to listen to my message about Economic Development (length 1:20 secs)

03 - Tax Collection Fee

  • Plymouth Township residents pay a TAX collection fee which appears on your property tax bill

  • This unnecessary fee represents 1% of your total bill

  • Deleting this tax upon a tax will save approximately $75-$150/year per property owner.

  • My opponent is in favor of this fee.

  • I will work hard to eliminate this tax on a tax.

  • Take a moment to listen to my message about this tax collection fee (length 1:08 secs)

04 - Northville Downs Lawsuit - It is NOT over

  • We are still at risk of having a gambling facility located in our Township with the potential of losing a $10 million lawsuit.

  • My opponent has secretively worked for years with Northville Downs owners to encourage their move to our Township.

  • Take a moment to listen to my message about this gambling facility. (length 1:01 secs)

05 - Smart Water Meters (AMI)

  • My opponent is pushing to replace our water meters with a radio frequency Smart Water system.

  • It is a staggering $7 million investment with no financial benefit -- just a nice to have convenience.

  • Higher water bills will be required to finance this investment.

  • I do not support this, as it is a potentially a bad financial and technological investment.

  • Take a moment to listen to my message about smart water meters (length 0:36 secs)

06 - Township Budget: My Opponent's Lies

  • Heise's claims about my vote against the 2024 budget are intentionally deceptive.

  • I fully support our Police and Fire departments, ensuring they are fully staffed and equipped with the best tools and technology to keep them safe as they protect our community.

  • My budget objections were not related to public safety; I opposed three specific line items:

    • $50,000 for renting church space as early voting location

    • Contracting Mr. Heitman ("I can make you cry") for economic development consulting.

    • 1% property collection tax fee (which Northville Twp repealed)

  • I advocate moving away from the current "omnibus" budget approval process.  Instead, we should return to approving Township budgets by department to ensure rigorous analysis and control, prevent wasteful spending, and align expenditures with approved priorities.
